In France, many organizations can offer a loan to finance a real estate purchase or another project. Each of them has its particularities. Banks or credit institutions will determine their own rate schedule for real estate loans, consumer loans, etc. The borrower therefore has a wide choice of financial organizations that can meet his needs. Here is a panorama of what he can find on the market.
The big national banks
The banking sector is mainly represented by four large national groups that are very large. These are Credither, CreditCole, SocieGen and Group CER. Together, they own nearly 6,000 billion euros in assets. Some of them are broken down into large regional networks more or less independent. That is to say with a tariff policy specific to each.
There are also two other major players in the French banking sector with Bank Postley and the Mutual Credit group. The first is the result of a separation of Bank Postley Group’s financial services and the second also operates as a network of several mutualist federations.
Among these large groups, we can distinguish their mode of operation and shareholding. Some of them are private companies, listed on the stock exchange, which are therefore owned by shareholders. The others are said to be mutual: members hold shares in the financial institution and control decisions according to the cooperative mode. Finally, some banks belong to the state or public authorities. They are therefore public banks.
The regional banks
Some other smaller banks are limited to a specific geographical area. The name of the region concerned is often associated with that of the bank: Banque de Savoie, Crédit Municipal de Paris, Credither..
These banks bring a diversification compared to the big national networks and thus privilege the regional identity, by supporting in particular the local activity.
With the spread of the Internet, a significant number of online banks have emerged. In fact, most of them are only subsidiaries of large national groups. Over the course of their development, they gradually began to expand their banking services and even began to offer different types of credit (auto, staff, and even real estate recently for some).
Companies that only make credit
Apart from different types of banks, some companies only carry out a financing activity. They offer auto loans, personal loans or real estate. They complement the offer of loan services and compete with the multitude of banks in this niche.
