Now, more than ever, we are committed to stepping out of our comfort zones and facing the unfamiliar, all to continue providing the best for our current and prospective district community members during this time.
All six of our campuses used our district's Flexible Learning Initiative to provide virtual instruction during the school closures in the spring, and the district has continued developing this initiative designed to deliver high-quality instruction to students from a distance. Additional professional development focused on virtual instruction is scheduled for administrators and faculty and staff leading up to the beginning of the school year and will continue moving forward.
We've accepted the challenge, welcome the change, and are ready to safely lead our STISD community while living through this pandemic.
ESPANOL
STISD has been busy throughout the spring and summer preparing for the 2020-2021 school year and our return to campuses and offices this fall. When our staff and students return to our facilities, they will find a "new normal," consisting of practices, procedures and precautions in place to better ensure the health and safety of our district community.
In planning for this school year, we researched guidelines, recommendations and best practices and found ways to embed these into our day-to-day practices at STISD. The goal of this plan is to provide the safest learning and working environment possible. Our "Safe Return to Work and School Plan" is guided by two principles:
- Safety of all in their work and learning environment
- Clear communication throughout the crisis
This plan is a working document, and we will continue to update it as circumstances, knowledge and guidance change.

Get connected & stay connected
At STISD, we realize the importance of getting connected and staying connected, especially during this time of teaching and learning from a distance. Alongside our online instruction, we plan to continue offering our students opportunities to experience camaraderie and life as an STISD student, including the chance to celebrate accomplishments. Be on the look-out for more information to come in regards to:
- Virtual "Meet the Teacher" events and campus presentations
- Extracurricular activities for the upcoming year
- Social and emotional learning opportunities and support for students and families
- Ways through which you can ensure we have the most up-to-date contact information and preferences for you so you never miss an update from the district or your child's school
Training for your future continues
At STISD, we take pride in providing our students with preparation for college and a future career, and we will not let the pandemic stop that. Even at a distance, students will take their career & technology (CTE) courses and will continue studying and training for certifications in various fields. We are committed to the continuation of preparation for the future. Are you?

Never stop learning
STISD will continue using its Flexible Learning Initiative established this spring as the school year kicks off virtually Aug. 17. The method, which prioritizes safety and flexibility, takes into account different learning environments and family situations, and is built to cater to different schedules and needs.
We are committed to ensuring all of our students have access to the internet and a device to be able to continue with virtual learning and be successful in it. This year the online learning will be more streamlined, as we will be using one learning management system - itsLearning - for all campuses and courses. Additional training on this platform will be offered.
The learning never stops for administrators, faculty, or staff either. We continue to learn and develop our skills in delivering remote instruction, and will continue to do so leading into the 2020-2021 school year.
See new possibilities
Although virtual instruction brings with it challenges, it also opens up limitless possibilities for engaging and impactful instruction. We see this as an opportunity to continue innovating and find new ways to help our students grasp concepts and skills from the safety of their homes. We look forward to the 2020-2021 school year and reinventing the way we teach and learn at STISD.
Never stop preparing
With health and safety at the forefront, STISD continues to prepare campuses to be able to welcome students and faculty/staff back in the future. We are also building on our plan to offer options to our families once we are able to resume with in-person instruction. These options will include: traditional (in-person), blended (a combination of in-person and online), and virtual (completely online).
